Attorney
Education and Background
Mr. Werntz was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1978 with a major in Political Science and Economics and a minor in History. He received his law degree from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1981 and a Master's in Business Administration from the Robert O. Anderson School of Business at the University of New Mexico in 1983. He served as President of Moses, Dunn, Farmer & Tuthill from 1993 to 2009. He is a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Section of the New Mexico State Bar. He enjoys playing golf and hiking.

• Admitted to the New Mexico Bar in October 1981.
• Admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
• Shareholder with Moses, Dunn, Farmer & Tuthill, P.C. since 1984.

Community Service
Mr. Werntz currently serves on the boards of New Mexico Christian Legal Aid, Inc. and the Albuquerque Rescue Mission. He is a former board member of Care Net Pregnancy Center of Albuquerque, Inc.
Mr. Werntz has prosecuted, defended and negotiated resolutions to hundreds of title claims since 1983 involving such matters as:

He is the law firm's representative in New Mexico Land Title Association. He has presented at several seminars for different title insurance underwriters.
Mr. Werntz handles both litigation and transactions involving real estate. He has experience in a wide variety of real estate transactions, including:
• The purchase and sale of residential property
• The purchase and sale of commercial property
• Residential and commercial leases
• Zoning, subdivision and other land use matters
Mr. Werntz has experience in negotiating and drafting all of the documents necessary for the above transactions, including purchase agreements, promissory notes, mortgages, deeds, grants of easements, covenants and restrictions, leases, asset purchase agreements, security agreements and financing statements.
In addition to his title insurance litigation experience, Mr. Werntz has prosecuted or defended:
• Quiet title actions
• Foreclosure lawsuits
• Condemnations
• Purchase contract disputes
Mr. Werntz has experience in drafting basic estate planning documents including:
• Wills with and without testamentary trusts
• Powers of attorney for financial affairs
• Health care powers of attorney
• Transfer on death deeds
Mr. Werntz also handles probate proceedings.
Mr. Werntz has experience in preparing documents needed in the formation of businesses including corporations, general partnerships and limited liability companies. Over the years, he has assisted clients in reviewing and drafting contracts for use in their business operations.
